Description:
The voltage is higher than that of the "Spring Festival" and the superb acoustics! Here it comes! At last, "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Lotto & Les Siecle! The most requested "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Lotto and Les Siecle has finally been realized! Of course, it is an orchestral version by Ravel. Aiming to recreate the modern French masterpiece with the sound and technique of the time of its premiere, they are going back to the time when "Pictures at an Exhibition" was performed by Koussevitzky at the Paris Opera House on October 19, 1922, not the time of Mussorgsky. However, due to the unavailability of some instruments only 100 years ago, it was not possible to realize this project for a long time. This time, he found a 1950 Selmer super-action alto saxophone for the "Old Castle" and a 1913 Kennon monopole C 6-valve French tuba for the "Vidro". Both are surprisingly soft sounding, reminiscent of horns. Not only that, the orchestral ringing and clarity of sound is superb. From the beginning of the "Promenade," the piece is unusually full, and the subtle shifts in tone are more clearly felt than with modern instruments, and the beautiful palette of sounds when the instruments are played together reminds us once again of Ravel's intentions and genius. The effect of the bells in "The Great Gate of Kiev" is even more exciting than Stokowski's. Not only the instruments, but Lhote also went back to Ravel's original score and the first edition of the score, and found that Koussevitzky had made some corrections to Ravel based on his Russian sensibilities, such as the bassoon solo in "Baba Yagar" that was originally an alto saxophone solo, the descending strings when the theme recurs in the second half of "The Great Gate of Kiev," and the "Kievan" theme in "The Great Gate of Kiev" that was originally an alto saxophone solo. The descending string figures in the second half of "The Great Gate of Kiev" were originally slower, for example. This reflects a verification more than that of the masterpiece "The Rite of Spring". The coupling is "La Valse," a huge performance from his visit to Japan in 2018 that is still fresh in our minds, and here, too, Lotto's magic is in full swing, never letting the listener go for a moment. La Valse" and "Pictures at an Exhibition" are from roughly the same period, and it's also a quintessential piece that, with the exception of the percussion instruments, suggests a great deal in common in terms of instrumentation and so on. Lotto's music grows ever larger and simply overwhelming. The rhythmic brilliance and speed of "The Dance of the Shelled Duck" and "The Market of Limoges" are also unique to Lotto. This is one of the best recordings of "Pictures at an Exhibition" that I would like to declare. Don't miss it! King International
