Gil Scott-Heron's last album, "I'm New Here," has been re-recorded and re-imagined by up-and-coming jazz drummer Makaya McCraven in a collaborative effort to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its release on XL Recordings! To commemorate the 10th anniversary of his last studio album "I'm New Here", Gil Scott-Heron has collaborated with up-and-coming Chicago jazz drummer and producer Makaya McCraven to re-record and re-imagine the album. The album was re-recorded and re-imagined by up-and-coming Chicago jazz drummer and producer Makaya McCraven and released as "We're New Again - a Reimagining by Makaya McCraven" on XL Recordings to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its release.The original "I'm New Here" was recorded and produced by Richard Russel, founder of XL Recordings, in New York in 2008 and released in 2010. In 2011, the album "We're New Here" was released, which included a remix of the same album by Jamie XX. Makaya McCraven, who re-imagined "I'm New Here," is one of the most important drummers, beatmakers, and producers in the new generation jazz scene, creating one of the most exciting and unique sounds in modern jazz. Richard Russel heard his album "Highly Rare" and fell in love with his sound, which led to this project.Recorded and produced at Makaya's home studio in Chicago, the album features Makaya's signature improvisational use of electronic elements and sampling, adding even more power to Gil Scott-Heron's deep vocals as he sings his gifted poetry. The result is an album that enriches the sound of the original work and adds a new dimension to it. The result is not only a richer version of the original sound, but also a completely unique and heartfelt celebration of the original work.
