Sunnyside presents the long-awaited piano trio work by Megumi Yonezawa, a Japanese pianist active in New York City who received 5 stars from "All About Jazz" and is a fan favorite! After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Yonezawa joined Greg Osby's band on the recommendation of Jason Moran. Megumi Yonezawa, a pianist who has appeared on numerous stages including the Village Vanguard, Carnegie Hall, and the North Sea Jazz Festival, has released a new album on the Sunnyside label. Her diverse repertoire of melodic originals, standard numbers, and complete improvisations convey the essence of contemporary jazz piano. A native of Hokkaido, Japan, he began playing piano at the age of six and earned degrees in performance and jazz composition from Berklee, and in 2016 he joined Spain's Fresh Sound New Talent (which released early works by Brad Meldor, Robert Glasper, and others) to perform with John Abea and In 2016, he released his first leader album "A Result of the Colors" with John Abea and Eric McPherson (rhythm section of the Fred Hersch Trio) on Spain's "Fresh Sound New Talent" (releasing early works by Brad Meldor, Robert Glasper, etc.).In 2018, the new "ESP-Disk" (a free jazz institution that released important works by Albert Isler and Sun Ra in the 60s) released "Boundary" with Ken Kobayashi and Masa Kamaguchi. Boundary" was released jointly with Ken Kobayashi and Masa Kamaguchi. The album was well received by Downbeat magazine. Megumi Yonezawa has long been active in Norwegian-born guitarist Jostin Gulbransen's band, and this album is recorded with the three members of her regular trio, who are also the rhythm section of the band. Mike Mikgark (Oregon) is a bassist who began his professional career after graduating from the University of North Texas and has supported numerous legends such as Dave Liebman, Don Friedman, and Mulgrew Miller. Mark Farber (California) is a drummer who has earned the trust of trombonist/arranger Alan Farber, who has also contributed to Sunnyside on numerous occasions. The three musicians have a wealth of experience and a richly nuanced sound that can be enjoyed by all three.The album's performances all reflect the richness of Megumi Yonezawa's talent as a pianist and arranger, including her own composition M1 "Before the Wind," whose 11/8 time signature creates a mysterious groove, M6 "Countdown," a number that John Coltrane performed himself at a very up-tempo and varied tempo, and M7 "Body And Soul," a standard piece with novel rehearmonization and rhythmic patterns.
