Description:
Voita, a rising star from the Czech Republic. His long-awaited debut album! A Collection of 20th-Century Czech Horn Sonatas Přemysl Voita is a rising young hornist who swept the top prizes at the 2010 Munich International Competition, winning First Prize, the Audience Prize, the Prize for Performance of a New Work, and a Special Prize from the orchestra. Although he has already appeared on the SUPRAPHON label as part of the Smetana Trio on *Brahms Trio Collection* (SU4072), this marks his debut album as a soloist! Having just performed in Japan in September 2012, where he received rave reviews for his magnificent rendition of R. Strauss’s Horn Concerto No. 2, this album is sure to attract significant attention! For this momentous first recording, he has chosen horn sonatas by some of the Czech Republic’s leading 20th-century composers. Kofolny (1921–1966), Slavický (1910–1999), Flobir (1901–1987), Šesták (*1925)… The album features works by composers in the tradition of Janáček and Hindemith. Upon the album’s release, Voita expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I hope this recording serves as a tribute to the era in which these works were composed and to the people who lived through those times.” True to his words, this highly anticipated program revives a collection of masterpieces by musicians who survived World War II. Supporting Voita on piano is Tomoko Sawano, a renowned accompanist for wind instruments active throughout Europe. Undaunted by a program consisting entirely of challenging pieces, she delivers a magnificent ensemble performance. [Przemysław Voita] Born in Brno in 1983. After graduating from the Prague Conservatory, he enrolled at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he studied under Christian Dahlmann, former principal horn of the Berlin Philharmonic. He boasts a distinguished record of awards from numerous international competitions and achieved a stunning victory at the Munich International Competition in 2010. Highly acclaimed for his powerful tone and exceptional technique, he currently performs with the Staatskapelle Dresden while also pursuing a career as a soloist specializing in 20th-century Czech music. He is a talented young artist whose future achievements are sure to draw attention! King International
