Description:

Introducing a chamber music album featuring a group of promising young German musicians. N. Menkemayer is a violist born in Bremen in 1978. A prodigious talent highly praised by artists such as Bashmet and Gerhard Schulz, he won the 2006 German Music Competition, as well as the 2005 ORF International Viola Competition; he has also taken first prize at the 2005 Karl Flesch Competition and the Primrose Viola Competition. He has already released five solo albums on Sony Classical. M. Hornung was born in Augsburg in 1986. He began studying with Elder Isakasse in 1995 and also studied under T. Grossenbauer and D. Gerlingas. In 2005, he won the German Music Competition. He has performed at leading concert halls in major European music cities—including the Berlin Philharmonie, as well as venues in Amsterdam, Leipzig, Zurich, and London’s Wigmore Hall—and has collaborated with numerous orchestras. He currently serves as principal cellist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and receives strong support from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation; he is also highly acclaimed as a chamber musician. He has already released two solo albums on Sony Classical. N. Limmer is a pianist who has demonstrated his talent since childhood, winning first prize at the Eastbourne Orchestra Competition and the Karl Bergman Competition, reaching the finals of the BBC Young Musicians Award, and receiving the Donald Wort Prize from the University of Cambridge. She made her solo debut at London’s Wigmore Hall in 2005 and was selected as one of Germany’s Top 50 Young Musicians. The works included here are performed in arrangements for piano trio (viola, cello, and piano) that highlight the viola’s understated charm. Featuring the viola’s subdued tone, the cello’s beautiful, well-defined sound providing support, and the piano enveloping the melodies played by the other parts to enrich the overall resonance, this is a striking performance that showcases the freshness of these three young artists.
