A New Release from Moreno & El Concierto Español! Caldara’s “Immense Fame,” a Masterpiece from His Spanish Period! El Concierto Español is a Spanish period orchestra founded by the renowned Emilio Moreno, who holds the important position of principal violist in an 18th-century orchestra. Following the rare recording *Spanish Tonadillas and Popular Musical Dramas, c. 1800* (GCD920309), Emilio Moreno & El Concierto Español now present the little-known opera “Supreme Fame” by the Italian Baroque master Antonio Caldera (1670–1736). Born in Venice, Caldara left a significant mark on Mantua, Barcelona, Rome, and Vienna. In 1708, at the height of the War of the Spanish Succession, after a performance of the opera *The Martyrdom of Saint Catherine* at the official residence of Cardinal Ottoboni in Rome, set off for Barcelona, Spain. It was there that he staged this opera, *Supreme Fame*, to celebrate the wedding of the future Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI. To stage Caldara’s *Great Renown*—said to be the first Italian opera performed in Spain—Emilio Moreno assembled a formidable cast, including countertenor Robin Blaze, Spanish soprano María Espada, Norwegian mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Kylant, among other renowned singers from across Europe. The achievements of Caldara during his time in Spain will be brought to light through the performance by Moreno and El Concierto Español. Tokyo M-Plus
