The Sixteen celebrates its 40th anniversary! The Sixteen, founded by Harry Christophers in 1979, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2019. An Enduring Voice, the program for the 40th anniversary year's "Choral Pilgrimage," one of The Sixteen's core events, is a combination of some of the most glorious music of the past and present. It celebrates the achievements of The Sixteen, long recognized as champions of England's Tudor music (especially the Eton Choirbook) and 20th century choral heritage, as well as their collaboration with 21st century composers. James MacMillan's "Oh, My Bright Maiden (Ovirgo prudentissima)" is a new commission by the Genesis Foundation. Also of note is the inclusion of Eric Whitaker's "Sainte Chapelle," composed for the 40th anniversary of the founding of Tallis Scholars. A bonus track is John Tavener's "Song for Athens," made famous when sung at Princess Diana's funeral. Tokyo M-Plus
