The Concerto Grosso is a concerto form unique to the Baroque era, designed to showcase the contrast in volume and technical skill between a group of solo instruments—composed of multiple soloists—and the full orchestra. Handel’s Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, composed in 1739, consists of 12 pieces. True to the Berlin Academy of Early Music’s reputation, the recording shines with an exquisite balance between the ensemble’s cohesion and the individual musicians’ artistic freedom.
