A Great Clarinetist Who Devoted His Life to Uncovering Works for Wind Ensembles A Rare Collection of Works by Krecker Dieter Krecker (1936–2011) was a German clarinetist and musicologist. After serving as a clarinetist in various orchestras, he went on to enjoy a successful career as a soloist. Beginning in 1962, he began researching previously unknown repertoire that had lain dormant until then. In the 1960s, to revive various 18th- and 19th-century works for wind instruments, he founded the “Consortium Classicum,” comprising principal players from leading orchestras and professors from music conservatories, breathing new life into buried masterpieces by unearthing works and arrangements for wind instruments. The three pieces included here are by three composers active around the same time as Beethoven, and all feature virtuosic elements. These three works are written for the rare combination of a double concerto for clarinet and bassoon. Universal Music/IMS
