Yo La Tengo, a charismatic band from Hoboken, NJ that has been at the forefront of the US indie scene for over 30 years, has arrived with their 15th new album! It has been two years since their last album "Stuff Like That There" (2015), which was a cover album, and five years since "FADE" (2013), an original full-length album produced by John McEntire of Tortoise. This is the long-awaited album. The album, which was entirely self-produced with no outside engineers, uses the same title as Sly & The Family Stone's "There's A Riot Goin' On," a funk classic released in 1971, to express the anger and despair of this chaotic era through music that replaces anger and despair. The title of the album is the same as the title of "There's A Riot Goin' On" by the band, and it expresses the band's strong message to the world that they want to offer an alternative to the anger and despair of this chaotic time through their music.The album opens with "You Are Here" (M-1), an instrumental number that foreshadows the warmth and grandeur that is the true appeal of Yo La Tengo, followed by "Shades of Blue" (M-2), a gentle melody that once you hear it you can't get it out of your head and want to repeat it over and over again, and "She May, She Might" (M-3), a delicate, deep sound with whispered vocals that create a dreamy atmosphere.
