The third volume in the series includes two particularly popular works! The third volume of the complete Sibelius symphonies by Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montréal, which began in 2019, features two of the most popular symphonies, No. 2 and No. 5. It includes two of the most popular of the complete works, No. 2 and No. 5. The two works were written 15 years apart, and each forms one of the pinnacles of Sibelius' musical style. No. 2 is a large work filled with patriotism and romanticism, and the slow, well-crafted finale rings with grandeur. The Fifth, on the other hand, is thoroughly focused and rigorous, achieving a high level of maturity in the smaller symphonies since the Third. Nézet-Séguin, who was born in Montreal, is an excellent partner for his hometown orchestra, and his performance is well-controlled and beautiful. The final two pieces have a wonderful sense of euphoria. The slightly darker tone is a perfect match for the Sibelius, and it gives the listener a taste of autumnal dreariness at a moment's notice. Excellent recording.The texture of the wind instruments and the strong playing of the double basses are clearly evident. In the last movement of No. 5, the excellent acoustics really show how Sibelius painted the whole piece by scattering sounds in each part like a complex mosaic. King International
