Graduated from Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with first prize! David Louwels! French cellist David Louwels graduated with first prize from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and is a member of the Ensemble Variances, founded in 2010 by French composer/pianist Thierry Pécaut. On this album, following "Pärt, Bridges & Britten" (INDE 101) and "Russian Music" (INDE 137), David Louwels presents the Sonata, composed between 1882 and 1883, when Richard Strauss was 18 years old, and characterized by its energy, passion, and finely engraved writing, which foreshadows a symphonic poem. The sonata is characterized by its energy, ardor, and finely chiseled style. Dedicated to his friend, cellist Auguste Francombe, the sonata was the last work Chopin published before his death. And this impassioned program will conclude with Liszt's Consolation, a masterpiece of piano literature arranged for the cello by the renowned British cellist Stephen Isserlis. Tokyo M-Plus
