A new frontier in electronic music that transcends genre boundaries, uniquely reimagining a wide range of influences “Edge Conditions,” the latest release by Jeremiah Chiu, a Chicago-born, Los Angeles-based composer, synthesizer player, and visual artist. Having garnered attention for his electro-acoustic works with Marta Sofia Honer and as co-leader of the experimental quintet SML, this is an ambitious work in which he ventures into denser electronic music. Influenced by the electronic soundscapes of the YMO scene, Arthur Russell’s 12-inch mixes, Yasuaki Shimizu, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and Art of Noise, he seamlessly traverses techno, jazz, ambient, and experimental music. By meticulously combining vintage and modular synthesizers, field recordings, and live audio sources, he constructs a unique sonic world that oscillates between the exhilaration of the dance floor and the tranquility of chill-out, order and chaos. Further expanding on the improvisational production methods explored in his previous album, *In Electric Time*, he completed this work between February and March 2026 through a combination of solitary production and collaboration with peers. Featuring contributions from Marta Sofia Honer, Marquis Hill, Will Miller, Patrick Shiroishi, and Booker Stardrum, among others, this work—conceived around the architectural concept of “Edge Conditions” (boundary zones)—explores the “in-between” spaces of different sounds, genres, and environments, presenting new possibilities for contemporary electronic music.
