Description:

A beautiful lyricism and rich romance, comparable to that of "Rakuen to Peri," here is Schumann's "Scenes from Goethe's Faust" with the special attention of guest conductor emeritus Arnoncourt. He had originally intended to turn it into an opera, but the sheer volume and worldview of the original work made him give up on the idea. Arnoncourt's comments on the work are as follows: "Schumann's 'Faust' is a work of great complexity. Schumann wanted to focus on a particular aspect of "Faust," namely the 'purification' (redemption or praise), and he chose the scenes from the original work that he had chosen for this purpose. Moreover, he did not change a single word of the text he had prepared. Each word is Goethe's own. (Schumann was clearly a pessimist. From the point of view of psychological approach, he is a kind of Freudian companion. One of the things that makes "Scenes from Faust" so extraordinary is Schumann's ability to pick out precisely those scenes from such a huge drama that exemplify one aspect of redemption.Arnoncourt, who is one of the greatest admirers of this work, calls it "one of the most beautiful moments in the history of music" in the "Sunrise Scene" at the beginning of the second part. In this passage, which contains one of the most brilliant passages of Schumann's orchestration, there is an instruction to divide the string group, and the fact that a double-winged arrangement of violins is actually used here to ensure a three-dimensional acoustic effect is a good example of the period technique that was cultivated under Arnoncourt. This is a good example of how the period technique cultivated under Arnoncourt was put to good use. The importance of the vocal parts in this work has much in common with "Rakuen und Peri," as there are many soloists, mixed chorus, and children's chorus, and the familiar faces from Arnoncourt's productions, including Gerhaherl and Gyula, who participated in the live recording of "Rakuen und Peri" mentioned above, are also present here. The Arnoncourt productions also feature a familiar lineup. Incidentally, when Arnoncourt performed the same piece with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in Graz in 2006, Gerhaherl played Faust and Miles played Mephistopheles, and Erdmann, von Magnus, and Lemmerth were also cast. Erdmann, von Magnus, and Lemmerth were also cast. When I think of Schumann, I picture him in a café in Dresden. That's where he met Wagner and Mendelssohn every week. They were about the same age, and all three were born in Saxony. Fortunately for Wagner's fame, both of the others died young. In other words, if Schumann and Mendelssohn had lived longer at the same time as Wagner, the history of music would have been quite different. I consider Schumann the greatest genius of the three." ......... [Comments courtesy of King International ---.
