Pianists Wu Chen and Juho Pohjolainen present a captivating program—centered on works for four-hand piano—in which delicate, intimate lyricism intertwines with brilliant virtuosity. At the heart of the album are two major four-hand works by Felix Mendelssohn. Framing these is the *Sonata in F Major* by Sophia Maria Westenholz, a composer who has been undergoing a revival in recent years. This work is characterized by bold harmonic language and a grand, orchestral sound, masterfully blending Classical clarity with the ambitious expression of the early Romantic period. Furthermore, the program is enriched by distinctive four-hand works by Cécile Chaminade and Amy Beach, each depicting a world of varied colors, scenic imagery, and poetic miniatures. Listeners can fully savor the intimate and rich musical dialogue created when two performers share a single piano. Wu Chen was born in Shanghai and studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music before continuing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in the UK. Pohjolainen is one of Finland’s leading pianists.
