Founded by flutist and oboe player Héloïse Gaillard, a pleasure flutist and oboist of the upper class women of the Baroque era, Amaryllis has been considered one of the finest independent ensembles playing historical instruments for 30 years. It is dedicated to exploring lesser-known aspects of Baroque music with sophistication and imagination. The theme of this year's concert is "Portraits of Women," suggesting the role women played as performers and patrons of musical creation during the Baroque era, but also portraying them as portraits of love. The program is filled with works by Couperin and others such as Philidor, Robert de Vizet, and Gautier of Marseille, as well as the unique sound, smoothness, and delicacy of a replica Flanders harpsichord made by Jacques Brault in 1986.
