This collection of works by Maripiero (1882-1973), including four world premiere recordings, are all full of interesting tones. However, if he were alive today, he might have tried to prevent us from hearing these recordings. In his later years, he called "most of his early works destroyed" and actually hid them in a box in his basement (found posthumously). Although he was very critical of his own reputation, he did have a lot of inventive and interesting works, such as "Symphony of Heroes" and "From the Grave," which have a heavy atmosphere, "Armenia," which uses a lot of Armenian melodies, and "Tragedy of Dithyrambos," which has a destructive "Grotesque" and a bit Stravinsky-esque flavor. All of them are very interesting. The NAXOS "Music of Modern Italy," which has been undergoing a remarkable revival recently, has added yet another masterpiece to its repertoire. Naxos Japan
