In 1940, Strauss and his friend and conductor Clemens Krauss wrote a libretto for "Capriccio," a masterpiece of Strauss's later years, in which the poet Olivier and the composer Flemish are both loved by the widow Madeleine. The script, written by Strauss with his friend and conductor Clemens Krauss in 1940, depicts the troubled heart of Madeleine, a widow loved by the poet Olivier and the composer Flemish, and the question of whether words or music are more important.
