The only Ancell recording from Mara 5! The beautiful Adagietto played in Toronto after his exile. This is a live performance of Mahler No. 5 with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, which he succeeded Ozawa as Music Director immediately after Ancell's exile. This TAHRA recording is the only one of No. 5, and it is a precious recording that reveals Ancell's exceptional interpretation. Please enjoy the mastery of Ancell's interpretation. The tempo of the third movement is particularly striking. In this movement, which is located in the center of the arch-like structure, Ancell plays at a surprisingly slow tempo. At first, you may feel a bit intimidated, but as you listen to the performance, you will be enveloped in a strange sense of comfort and realize that this is a performance in which you can take your time to appreciate the vast musical world that Mahler has created. The following fourth movement, the Adagietto, is also a very beautiful performance. The finale is not carried away by the momentum, but is carefully built up and assembled to create an imposing and dignified sound.The communication with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra was excellent and the orchestra did a great job.
