Takumi Kubota presents all three of Bach’s unaccompanied violin partitas. Alongside his previous collection of unaccompanied sonatas (OVCL-00119), which was highly acclaimed by various publications, Kubota has spent approximately two years working on the remaining three partitas—a collection that was his life’s work—thus bringing this series to a conclusion.
Furthermore, Kubota has embarked on a new attempt at dialogue with Bach: performing the Unaccompanied Flute Partita in B minor, BWV 1013, on the violin. By performing this work—originally written for solo flute—exactly as written, without altering a single note, Kubota has, in fact, demonstrated the validity of performing it on the violin. This recording also marks the world’s first CD release of this piece.
Unlike the sonata collection with its strict compositional style, Kubota masterfully brings out the distinct characters of each of the three Partitas. The variations of that magnificent Chaconne resound divinely as a dialogue with the great Bach, to whom Kubota pays homage, while the Flute Partitas, rendered through the violin’s timbre, resonate with a newfound radiance that illuminates the inherent beauty of these works.
