Ernest Greene's project, Washed Out, returns to Sub Pop with its first new album in three years. Purple Noon, the fourth album by the chillwave pioneers, is released. Washed Out is the project of Ernest Greene, an Atlanta-based producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, He wrote, recorded, and produced it all by himself again. The album was mixed by Ben H. Allen, who also worked on "Paracosm" and "Within and Without". The album's production was followed by writing for other artists, such as Sudan Archives, allowing Greene to explore genres such as R&B and modern pop. The songs thus provided to others were brighter and richer, and elements of them were incorporated into Purple Noon, building a new chapter for Greene as a producer and songwriter. The vocals take center stage, the tempo slows down, and the beats are bolder and the dynamics more inclusive in their depth. The Mediterranean coastline provided the inspiration for Purple Noon.Greene pays homage to the unique island culture of the region and uses it as a backdrop for his work. The album's title comes from Rene Clement's 1960 film and is based on Patricia Highsmith's novel The Talented Mister Ripley. It sounds like a romantic Hollywood epic, adding an emotional layer to Washed Out's escapism. It takes the music to new heights.
