Shinpei Ruike has steadily built a career as a top player in the Japanese jazz scene, both in terms of popularity and ability, participating in the Naruyoshi Kikuchi dub sextet and DCPRG, and releasing his own leader works. This is a duo album with his band member Joji Nakajima, a young pianist whom Ruike trusts. The duo performance with Nakajima has continued for the past several years, and this recording was made at a time when the combination has matured. In contrast to the band's energetic and passionate performance and abstract sound, this album is a beautiful and cutting-edge album with phrases, ensembles, and a delicate and introspective sound, but also with an awareness of the avant-garde nature of the two musicians, which is more than just a collection of jazz ballads. The album includes well-known standards such as "Nearness of You" and "Panonica," as well as Miles Davis' "Flamenco," "Sketch," and "Hino. Sketch," Terumasa Hino's "Alone, Alone And Alone," and Eric Traffaz's "Betty. The duo is in its element, performing these masterpieces with a dense and serene expression.The thrilling "HAOMA," a number composed by Ryoke, and "North Latitude of 40.3 degrees," written about their hometown of Hachinohe City, as well as short improvisations by each of the two musicians, color the album. The liner notes of the album are written by various bands. The liner notes were written by Masayasu Tsuboguchi, a pianist who has played in various bands with other musicians and is Nakajima's piano teacher. This is an innovative and high-quality jazz album by Shinpei Ruike and Joji Nakajima that presents new possibilities for expression.
