Former SUFFOKATE member Ricky Hoover picks up the mic again to form OV SULFUR's long-awaited debut album, "The Burden Ov Faith".
OV SULFUR is a new giant star in the bracketed death metal scene, which has been boosted by the breakthrough of LORNA SHORE. After his legendary deathcore band SUFFOKATE disbanded in 2016, Ricky put down the microphone and chose a career as a barber. He decided to leave the band altogether. However, a global pandemic changed his mind. After working out at the gym and gaining a strong body, Ricky felt a strong urge to make music again. He then formed OV SULFUR with Chase Wilson, whom he met through a mutual friend. They resumed their musical activities in their hometown. Things took a sharp turn in February 2021 with the release of their debut single, "Behind the Hand of God. The song's bass-heavy frontman Richy's vocals, deathcore and black metal influences, and bold orchestration, combined with an innovative arrangement of unexpected vocal melodies, created a tremendous response.In August 2021, they self-released their first EP "Oblivion" and planned a release show in their hometown of Las Vegas, but the tickets sold out immediately. The tickets sold out immediately, and the show was a sell-out despite the change of venue from the original venue to a bigger one. After that, the band toured with LORNA SHORE on "The Pain Remains Tour," and also with WHITECHAPEL, AS I LAY DYING, and others, and the situation changed rapidly.
OV SULFUR's memorable debut release on Century Media, "The Burden Ov Faith," presents a dynamic world that traverses deathcore, black metal, and metalcore and is filled with innovative hooks. The Burden Ov Faith also confronts a tremendous amount of grief: "Earthen," whose music video was released in January 2023, was sung for Ricky's nephew, who died of cancer at the young age of 16.The guest lineup is truly spectacular, with Alex Terrible (SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL) on (2) "Befouler", Taylor Barber (LEFT TO SUFFER) on (3) "Unraveling", Howard Jones (ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE/now LIGHT THE TORCH) on (8) "Wide Open," and Kyle Medina (BODYSNATCHER) and Lindsay Schoolcraft (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH) on (10) "The Burden Ov Faith, They contribute to nearly half of the songs on the album.
