Many previously unreleased recordings! Rare recordings of legendary harmonica player Tommy Riley! A collection of various recordings by legendary Canadian harmonica player Tommy Riley (1919-2000), who lived and worked in the UK, is now available! Born in Canada in 1919, Tommy Riley studied violin at the age of 8 and harmonica at the age of 11, and began playing harmonica in London in 1935 and in Europe in 1937. While studying violin at the Leipzig Conservatory, he was captured by the Gestapo and sent to a concentration camp from 1939 to 1945, where he honed his harmonica skills based on the playing of Jascha Heifetz. After the war, he returned to London and worked as a concert soloist, recitalist, BBC radio and television performer, studio musician & composer, and in 1992 became the first harmonica player to be awarded the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This collection album brings together a diverse repertoire of 30 songs, ranging from arrangements of classical masterpieces to jazz and pop numbers, light music, folk songs, and more.The CD also includes a number of previously unreleased broadcast recordings, which are being made available on CD for the first time.
