Teresa Hackel is a recorder player and improviser born in Berlin, Germany, who currently lives in Baden, Switzerland. Eiko Yamada is a recorder player and improviser born in Tokyo who lives in Heidelberg, Germany. Although the recorder is a relatively obscure instrument in the world of improvisational music, both are renowned recorder virtuosos active primarily in Europe. For the past few years, Hackel and Yamada have been pursuing a recorder duo project, performing extensively in Switzerland, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Then, on September 21, 2025, the two recorded an improvised performance at the Fishermen’s Chapel in Leigh-on-Sea, a fishing village near London, UK. This CD features four tracks ranging from 6 to 18 minutes in length, taken from that recording session. Hackel plays the high tenor recorder, Paetzold the great bass recorder and treble recorder, and Yamada the soprano recorder, treble recorder, tenor recorder, and bass recorder, each switching between various recorders to showcase their exquisite interplay.
