Formed in 2015 and based in Brooklyn, New York, Standing on the Corner (SOTC) is an enigmatic collective that spans performance, video, and sound. Their latest album, *SOTC "II"*, marks their debut release on XL Recordings. The 15-track album fluidly traverses soul, punk, salsa, doo-wop, jazz, funk, avant-garde, and rap, all filtered through a uniquely New York sensibility. Produced by band leader Geo Escobar and core members (Jack “Wacco” Nolan, Buzz “Manman” Donald, and Clerida “Ca$hClay” Eltime) produced this genre-busting album, which is filled with tension as it drifts between scorched psychedelia, rock ’n’ roll, no-wave rap, R&B, and post-hardcore. Guest appearances include rappers Danny Brown, Ladybug Mecca, and Styles-P; the vocal group The Wallockets; Bubba Dupree, guitarist for the legendary hardcore punk band VOID; and poet Sonia Sanchez. A work that serves as a mirror reflecting contemporary America, distilling a philosophy that values transience and the memory of community.
