Formed in 1985 around Choke (a.k.a. Jack Kelly, vocals) and Mark McKay (drums)—who had previously been active in NEGATIVEFX and LASTRIGHTS—SLAPSHOT!! is one of the most important bands of the 1980s Boston hardcore punk scene!! This compilation brings together the very best of their early work, featuring their debut mini-album *BACK ON THE MAP* (tracks 18–20), their second release, the single “SAME MISTAKE” (tracks 16, 17), and their masterpiece first album *STEP ON IT* (tracks 1–15)! You can hear the influence of punk when you play it backward. An essential album when discussing US hardcore punk! The band is still active today, despite the departure of Mark, a close ally of Choke, who remains the face of the band.
