Shun Ishikawa is the No. 1 drummer in terms of both popularity and skill, in high demand for numerous live performances and recordings across genres—from jazz to Kururi, Ringo Sheena, Gen Hoshino, KIDFRESINO, and more. This new album features Tomoaki Baba as a guest on the new trio formed by Shun Ishikawa, Yusei Takahashi, and Marty Holoveck.
The trio was formed in 2024. Their debut album, *Live at ALFIE "Temporal Cubic"* (released in December 2025), received high acclaim, including a nomination for “Best Jazz Album” at the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026.
Encouraged by the positive response to their joint concert with Tomoaki Baba in January 2026, they decided to produce an album. In March, they recorded all the tracks in just one day. All four members are part of the Terumasa Hino Group and represent the new generation of the jazz scene. Building on the guidance they received from Hino, they deliver dynamic and robust interplay. The title “Mabui” means “soul” in the Okinawan dialect.
Shun Ishiwaka and Tomoaki Baba are the same age and have been friends since childhood in their hometown of Sapporo. They garnered attention for their collaboration on the 2023 animated film *BLUEGIANT*, where they provided the musical voiceovers for the main characters.
