Recorded at BombShelter in East Nashville and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, the album features an orchestra arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson, as well as a full 17-member choir arranged by Mitsuki. For the first time, she felt it was important for the band to record live together in the studio, and she co-produced the album with her longtime producer, Patrick Hyland. “This is my most American album,” she says; for her, it is a work that feels like a profound act of bearing witness to a country rife with personal sorrow and contradictions.
