This is a Japan-only project and limited edition of the Harmonie Mundi label's masterpieces on SACD. The Harmoniumundi Harmoniumundi high-resolution masters were licensed and carefully re-mastered at King Sekiguchidai Studio under the technical supervision of Ikuo Tsunoda.
The Brandenburg Concerto by the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music! This alone is enough to make one's heart leap with excitement, but what an unprecedented scale of recording has appeared, with guest appearances by world-famous musicians Isabelle Faust and Antoine Tamestit. The Berlin Academy of Ancient Music recorded the Brandenburg Concerto in 1998 (HMM 931634) and has featured it in numerous concerts since then. The ensemble is free, generous, and playful. The two musicians have also made an excellent recording of Bach's violin concertos with Faust (KKC 6219/ HMM 902335), and they know each other well through the Telemann concerto project with Tammesti.
Both Faust and Tamestit participate in No. 3, and the dazzlingly fast passages in the last movement are a masterpiece! In No. 4, in which Faust participates, the recorder plays an active part, and Faust's aggressive, elegant, and superbly crafted passages are also a treat to listen to. No. 6 is a little unusual in that it does not include a violin, but the presence of the viola tamesti is outstanding. The presence of the viola tamesti is outstanding, as is Alpermann's overly eloquent harpsichord and the excellence of the winds! The six pieces are so impressive that it is almost as if they were one big suite. The players at the time of the works are known to have been highly skilled, and the historical fact of this is again reflected with surprise. At the same time, it seems to reproduce the enthusiasm and liveliness of the performance site at that time and the excitement of the audience. The performance is filled with a sense of improvisation and a pleasant sense of speed, and is overflowing with unusual enthusiasm, energy, and spirit.
