His talent has drawn global attention, including a third-place finish in the Junior Division of the Van Cliburn Competition in 2023, as well as first-place wins at the César Franck International Piano Competition (Belgium, 2019), the North International Music Competition (Sweden, 2021), and the Manhattan International Competition (USA, 2022). Schulmeister portrays the opening “Promenade” from Mussorgsky’s suite with a dignified presence that avoids excessive showiness, while “Dance of the Chicks in Their Shells” and “Shumil” shine with beautiful delicacy. “The works I have chosen for this album are all pieces that I cherish deeply in every sense.
