Jan Bartos, Moravec's Last Pupil Reich's Only Piano Concerto, World Premiere Recording in Complete Form! Born in the Czech Republic in 1981, world-renowned pianist Jan Bartos is Moravec's last disciple. Bartos, acclaimed for his Beethoven interpretations, performs the "Emperor" and Reicha's only piano concerto, composed around the same time as the "Emperor." This marks the first complete recording of Reicha's works (the missing final 44 measures of the solo part were discovered just in 2018; the complete full score was published in 2020). Beethoven and Reicha were born in the same year and became close friends after first meeting at the age of 15 in the Bonn court orchestra. They studied together at the University of Bonn and both became friends with Haydn. Musically, they share many similarities, particularly during Reicha's time in Vienna. Reicha wrote his only piano concerto precisely during this Vienna period, around the same time Beethoven composed his "Emperor" Concerto. Both concertos are written in the "heroic" key of E-flat major. Jan Bartosz is a highly regarded interpreter of Beethoven, here evoking the legacy of his teachers Ivan Moravec and Alfred Brendel.
