Alongside his bold experiments with microtones, he left behind works for the "ordinary" piano. Therein lay the sound essential to understanding Haver's music! Alois Haver is famously known for his pioneering experiments with microtones. Yet, the numerous works he left using the standard 12-tone scale are rarely discussed. Yet, as Hába himself stated, "In order to reach a truly personal means of expression like Bach, Schumann, or Reger, I studied non-European music and sought a path to artistically independent creation." His microtonal experiments were ultimately a means to deepen his own music, not a rejection of the twelve-tone system. This two-disc album comprehensively covers works written for the standard piano, utilizing the twelve semitones. Performing is Miroslav Binhauer, a pianist born in Ostrava in 1993 whose repertoire centers on 20th-century and later music. He studied at the Janáček Academy of Music, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Ghent. He is also active as a performer on the unique instrument known as the "six-tone harmonium," which conveys Hába's experimental music. "His early works took Romanticism as their starting point, his mature works transcended tonality, and his late works were atheistic.
