This year (2024) is the 170th anniversary of the birth of Leoš Janáček (1854-1928).A century after the premiere of Janacek's opera "Mr. Bloucek's Travels," based on the novel by Svatopluk Čev, the long-awaited new recording from the Sprafon label is now available! There are two masterpieces of Janacek's opera "Mr. Bloucek's Travels", one by the Prague National Theatre Orchestra conducted by Václav Neumann (recorded in 1962) and the other by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Franciszek Elek (recorded in 1980), both released on the Sprafon label, and the first performance in 1920 was performed by the Prague Theatre The Prague Theatre Orchestra & Opera Chorus, which premiered the work in 1920, "reprised" it in 2021 in this recording. A century has passed since the first performance.In the midst of the pandemic, all but the main character, Mr. Bloucek, were double cast, and the same theater choir and orchestra successfully completed a monumental recording in Prague's Rudolfinum. The main character, Maciej Bloucek (Mr. Bloucek), is a simple man of the world who loves food and beer. The first part, "Mr. Blowcek's Journey to the Moon," in which a drunken Mr. Blowcek is sent to the moon and has a row with the art supremacists who live there (Mr. Blowcek is suspicious of all that is alien and unfamiliar and detests artists and intellectuals). The second part, "Mr. Bloucek's Journey to the 15th Century," is a serial opera in two parts.The science fiction conception that transcends time and place is unique, but the music is also original, and the first part, which took almost ten years to complete, is an excellent fantasy with beautiful music. Janacek dedicated this work to Tomáš Galig Masaryk (1850-1937), the first president of the Czechoslovak Republic. While the opera features St. Wenceslas, Charles IV, and other great figures in Czech history, Janacek's ironic dedication of the opera to the president, which features the liar and drunkard Mr. Bloucek, is another example of his irony.Conductor Jaroslav Kizlink studied chorus and conducting at the Janacek Academy of Music, and has been the conductor of the Brno State Opera since 1992, the chief conductor since 2001, and the music director from 2001 to 2003, and also performed with the same company in Japan in 2001 and 2003.
