In 17th-century Bohemia, the works of the poet Adam Václav Michna were widely sung. His Christmas songs were particularly popular, and these hymns in praise of the “Blessed Virgin Mary” held an important place in the Czech music of the time. These richly colorful works captivate listeners with their exceptionally beautiful melodies. Centered on Michna’s *Czech Music for the Blessed Virgin Mary*, this album also features works by Grandi, Albrich, Biber, and Capricornus. All of these composers were closely associated with the Jesuits and drew inspiration from their spirituality in their compositions. These works are performed by the renowned singer Hana Brašiková and Collegium Marianum. They also received high praise for their album *Zeling: Christmas Music in the Churches of Baroque Prague* (SU-4174). Great care has been taken with the recording locations, including the “Hall of Mirrors” in the Clementinum Chapel, which served as a Jesuit residence.
