World Premiere Recording The Czech Baroque Ensemble records F.X. Richter’s oratorio *The Descent from the Cross*! This is a work by Franz Xaver Richter (1709–1789), whose recordings the Supraphon label has been dedicated to producing. This release marks the world premiere recording of the oratorio *The Descent from the Cross*, composed for Good Friday. Franz Xaver Richter—a leading figure among the composers who left Bohemia for Germany in the 18th century and a pioneer of the pre-Classical period—served at the Mannheim court as a bass singer, string player, and composer at the Mannheim court. Thanks to his remarkable contributions to the court orchestra, he has gone down in music history as a leading figure of the so-called “Mannheim School.” The two-act oratorio *The Descent from the Cross* was composed in 1748 at the request of the Elector. This beautiful work features five soloists singing arias, accompanied by short choral pieces at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end; it is F.X. Richter’s only oratorio in Italian, with libretto by Giovanni Claudio Pasquini. King International
