Description:
A Collection of Baroque Works Rich in Czech Flavor Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679–1745), a Czech composer renowned for his beautiful style, clearly incorporated elements of his homeland into his music. This collection brings together “Bohemian Baroque” works by Tuma (1704–1774), who belonged to the generation following Zelenka, and by his contemporary, the largely unknown Johann Georg Orschler. Tuma’s “Stabat Mater,” though only about 17 minutes long, is deeply moving and filled with pure beauty. The Czech early music ensembles Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704 deliver a performance of astonishingly high caliber. King International
