Willem Wewerka: A Collection of Unaccompanied Oboe Works An album of unaccompanied works by Telemann and Britten, performed by Willem Weverka, one of today’s most acclaimed oboists. Born in Prague in 1978, he studied at the Prague Conservatory under French oboist Jean-Louis Capetari. He won first prize at the International Oboe Competition held in Japan in 2003. Since then, he has built his career by performing with some of the world’s leading orchestras. He was also a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, an ensemble of outstanding young musicians founded by Claudio Abbado. Telemann’s unaccompanied piece was originally composed for the flute. As Willem Weverka himself has stated, “One of a performer’s roles is to take on new challenges,” and he delivers an outstanding performance that showcases his exceptional expressiveness and virtuosity, bringing out the vivid brilliance of this masterpiece. In his performance of Britten’s work, he maximizes the potential of the oboe, overwhelming the audience with his exceptional technique and a performance brimming with dynamism. King International
