Description:
A Collection of Baroque Flute Works by the Czech Virtuoso Jana Semerádová 300th Anniversary of His Birth! A Masterpiece That Evokes the Court of Frederick the Great A collection of Baroque flute works by Jana Semerádová, the brilliant Czech flutist. Marking the 300th anniversary of his birth in 2012—an occasion that has garnered significant attention in Japan as well—this album features a rich selection of elegant works by musicians who flourished at the court of Frederick the Great! It is well known that Frederick the Great was deeply knowledgeable about the arts and, as an accomplished flutist himself, was also active as a composer. This CD features many works closely associated with the King. J.S. Bach’s “The Musical Offering” is a piece for which there is an anecdote that it was composed based on a theme given to him by the King. In addition to the King’s flute teacher, Quantz, and C.P.E. Bach—who served as a court musician and harpsichordist—this ambitious program also spotlights musicians who are rarely featured today, such as Kirnberger and F. Benda, who were active as court violinists. Joining her are Renka Torgersen, Hana Flekova, and Bertrand Cuyet—leading figures in the early music world! Accompanied by the noble Baroque flute tones of the striking Jana Semerádová, this album is a masterpiece that transports listeners to the court of the Great King. Jana Semerádová is a flutist from the Czech Republic. Not only does she perform internationally as a flutist and Baroque flutist, but she also plays a leading role in the early music world beyond her performing career—serving as the artistic director of Collegium Marianum and overseeing the programming for early music festivals.
