Nation of Language is a synth-pop band from Brooklyn, USA, whose last album was the #1 best album of the year by Rough Trade UK. Once again produced by Nick Milliser (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!) (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!), the band released their fourth album, "Dance Cold Memory", the first album after moving to Sub Pop. Synth-pop, minimal-wave, post-punk, goth, and new-romantic are just a few of the old jargon terms that fans and critics alike have been using to describe Nation of Language's mesmerizing work. As a result, if the band cannot be accurately defined, it is the right one. Frontman Ian Richard Devaney is adept at extending what synth-driven music evokes, and his output is both a supersensory journey and an all-too-human destination. With that experience in mind, he wrote the spectral and majestic "Dance Called Memory," the band's fourth album, in a remarkably humble way, sitting down and strumming his guitar to unleash a bit of melancholy. Devaney's mission is to "soulfully transform individual despair into comforting collective sorrow." The deeply poignant and resonant single "Now That You're Gone" was inspired by Devaney's experience witnessing his godfather's tragic death from ALS and caring for his parents' ailing friend. At its core, "Now That You're Gone" is a reflection of the importance of friends supporting one another, highlighting a common theme throughout the album: the pain of crumbling friendships and lost hope.
