Andruw Davies, a specialist in introducing British music to the world through the Chandos label, will now record Michael Tippett's masterpiece, the oratorio "We the Children of the Age," with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Composed between 1939 and 1942, "We are the Children of Our Times" was inspired by the shooting of a Nazi diplomat by a young Jewish man and the "Kristallnacht" persecution that ensued, It is Tippett's masterpiece and a work that marked the beginning of his career.It depicts tragedy and redemption with themes of all kinds of discrimination in society, and has a structure similar to that of Bach's Passion and Handel's Messiah. The recording was made at Fairfield Halls in Croydon on May 12, 2023, the day after the concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with the same members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, The recording features not only the solid performance of Davis, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Chorus, but also the singing of the splendid soloists.
