Shostakovich: Symphony No. 13 "Babi Yar Included in the program Arvo Pärt: From the Deep End Shostakovich:Symphony No.13 in B-flat minor, Op.113 "Babi Yar Performers Yon Stulgårds (conductor), BBC Philharmonic, Albert Domen (bass-baritone), Estonian National Male Chorus Recorded March 19-20, 2023 at Media City UK (Salford) A leading Finnish maestro who served as principal conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra from 2008 to 2015, has also served as artistic director of the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, and is currently principal guest conductor of the BBC Philharmonic and the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada, Jørn Sturgård (Jørn Sturgård).He came into the limelight with the worldwide success of the two "150th anniversary editions" of Sibelius: The Complete Symphonies (CHAN 10809) and Nielsen: The Complete Symphonies (CHAN 10859), which were released in 2014-2015, and later with George Antheil's orchestral works (CHAN 10941, CHAN 10982, and CHAN 20080). In January 2023, he will be touring Japan with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra to great acclaim. The orchestra has been highly acclaimed for Shostakovich's "Symphony No. 11" (RCHSA 5278/CHSA 5278), which was released in 2020 and was highly acclaimed as a Record Arts Special Mention & Excellent Recording and a "Critics' Choice" by Gramophone magazine in the U.K. Sturgholds' Shostakovich is joined by "Symphony No. 13", commonly known as "Babi Yar".
