The chosen soloist is Tasmin Little! A new recording! Elgar’s Violin Concerto! November 2010 marked the 100th anniversary of the premiere of Elgar’s “Violin Concerto.” To commemorate this milestone year, Chandos assembled the finest possible lineup to record Elgar’s “Violin Concerto.” The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Andrew Davis, and Tasmin Little! “I’ve been waiting a long time to record Elgar’s Violin Concerto,” says Tasmin Little. Tasmin Little’s deep attachment to this work is evident from the fact that, during the 150th anniversary of Elgar’s birth in 2007, she continued to perform Elgar’s “Violin Concerto” on tours throughout the UK, Australia, and Southwest Asia. In addition, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the premiere, Tasmin Little has recorded a recreation of the cadenza played by the original soloist, Marie Hall, at the 1916 premiere; it is fascinating to compare the cadenza as it sounds today with that of 100 years ago. Conductor Andrew Davis, a master of British music, has an outstanding track record, including a 2007 recording of Elgar’s “Violin Concerto” with James Eanes.
