Description:

Horn Trio Collection Brahms / Ligeti / Mozart / Schumann Contents Brahms: Horn Trio, Op.40/ Ligeti: Trio "Homage to Brahms"/ Mozart: Horn Quintet KV 407 (horn trio version)/ Schumann:Duet No.3 from Fantasy Pieces, Op.88 (for horn trio) Performers Martin Owen (horn), Francesca Dego (violin), Alessandro Taverna (Piano) Martin Owen is an internationally acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, having served as principal horn with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from 1998 to 2008, and currently holds the position of principal horn with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also held solo horn positions with the major London orchestras as well as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. And then there is the gorgeous trio of Francesca Dego, a young Italian violinist born in 1989 and one of the most sought-after on the international scene, boasting a sonorous sound, compelling interpretation, and seamless technique, and Alessandro Taverna, a pianist born in Italy in 1983. The birth of this trio. One of the earliest works in which the horn was used as a chamber music instrument was Mozart's "Horn Quintet. Originally scored for horn, violin, two violas, and cello, it was transformed into a very effective "Trio" when the bass instrument was replaced by the piano, as the horn and violin played each other's melodies. The repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary music, including the first major "Horn Trio" by Brahms, and Ligeti, whose works are influenced by Brahms but also include elements of Hungarian music. *Recorded May 30-June 1, 2023, Potton Hall, Suffolk, England.
