In addition to a selection from the *Songs Without Words*—including the famous “Spring Song” and “Spinning Song”—Volume 1 also features the *Rondo Capriccioso* and *Three Fantasies, or Caprices*, which demonstrate the extraordinary talent of the young Mendelssohn. It will be fascinating to see how he interprets Mendelssohn’s music—which he says had a profound influence on his own musicality. Peter Donohue, who has an unconventional background having worked as a percussionist in his youth, studied piano in Paris with Yvonne Loriod and Olivier Messiaen. He was a prize winner at the 1981 Leeds International Piano Competition and and won first prize at the 1982 Tchaikovsky International Competition.
