French Superstar Jean-Ephraim Bavze Mozart’s Piano Concertos, Volume 2! Jean-Ephraim Bavze, a superstar of French pianism. Following his collection of Haydn concertos (CHAN10808), this series of Mozart piano concertos marks the beginning of his exploration of Classical-era concertos. This second installment features Piano Concertos No. 14 and No. 19, along with two divertimentos, K. 136 and K. 138. As with the Haydn recordings and the previous release, he is joined by Gábor Takács-Nagy—a Hungarian maestro who founded the Takács String Quartet and has recently expanded his career as a conductor—and the “Manchester Camerata,” one of Britain’s leading chamber orchestras. In September 2016, he performed Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 17” (included on PCHAN10929) during a Japan tour with the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa conducted by Ashkenazy, and Jean-Ephraim Bavze, who had just performed in Japan in July 2017.
