The first volume of a grand project to document all of Denis Dufour's Aquasmatic works! A grand project has begun to document all of Denis Dufour's (1953-) works, the direct successor of Pierre Scheffert and the leading figure in "Aquasmatic Art". Developed from "Musique Concrète," "akusmatic art" is a broad concept that utilizes any sound material that can be established in a medium, and also encompasses non-musical fields such as radio art. A great eclecticist, Dufour's body of work is vast, and the first volume contains 44 songs on 16 [CDs, or about 18 hours of music. (That still represents only a quarter of the works he has written in half a century.) Dufour's most important goal was to have no particular style, other than to always claim to be part of the French tradition of clarity. (His fascination with the flamboyance of Jean-Philippe Rameau is well known.) As such, his works are composed without resorting to practices common to contemporary music, such as drone, ambient, improvisation, field recording, modular synthesizers, and noise. The works are arranged thematically rather than chronologically: "Melodrama," "Radio Art," "Suite," "Tombow (Pierre Henri, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Scheffert)," "Aksmarid Cycle," "Religious Music," "Electronica," "Moments musicaux," and "Theatre. Moments musicaux" and eight themes. Listening to this project, you will realize that Dufour is one of the few people who has created a body of akusmatic works that will stand up to the judgment of future generations.
