This piece focuses on the motets of Georg Piscator (1607-1656), a court organist active in Innsbruck in the 17th century. Piscator went to Venice by order of his master, Leopold V, to study the latest Italian style. The results are evident in the motets, which are characterized by dramatic expression and precise arrangement of the voices. Especially in the solo motet, the vocal technique is outstanding. Quadriga musica," published in the same year as the death of Leopold V, is a fine example of the glamorous musical culture of the Innsbruck court, where Italian-style religious music was flourishing.
