Description:

A recording of the two greatest symphonists in the history of Western music, Michael Sanderling and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. This is the second recording of the "Beethoven & Shostakovich: Complete Symphonies" project for Sony Classical with conductor Michael Sanderling, the third son of the famous German conductor Kurt Sanderling, who is currently the focus of much attention in Europe, and the prestigious orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. Michael Sanderling has inherited his father's musical background, and in addition to his musicality, he has a fresh interpretation of music with careful attention to the string parts, as a cellist by birth, and a unique style that actively incorporates period playing styles, especially in the repertoire up to the early Romantic period, His reputation is growing rapidly. As in the highly acclaimed first series, which combined the 6th symphonies of both Beethoven and Shostakovich, this second series traces the footsteps of these two composers as "the composers and the terminators of the symphony, one of the foundations of Western music," with the latest interpretations of their works, Symphony No. 10 from Shostakovich.According to Sanderling's interpretation, the two pieces have something in common in that they reflect the political situation at the time of their composition, with Napoleon in the former and Stalin in the latter being incorporated in some way as one of the themes of the works, hence the coupling of the two pieces. Michael Sanderling's father, Kurt, had a close friendship with Shostakovich from his Soviet days, and continued to actively perform Shostakovich's works after moving to East Germany (recordings of Nos. 1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 15 are also available). By the time Michael was born in 1967, Shostakovich had already written up to Symphony No. 13. For Michael, it is music that has accompanied him throughout his development, and it is a work with which he has maintained a unique relationship that no other musician has been able to achieve. In Beethoven, on the other hand, Michael thoroughly adheres to a period performance style, which is a departure from his father Kurt's profound interpretation of Beethoven, and seems to present new possibilities for interpretation of Beethoven, which has been played to death. The unique interpretation of Beethoven's music, which uses the relatively large size of a regular symphony orchestra, but with a faster tempo and lighter sound to bring out the transparent patterns woven by the individual voices, has further expanded the possibilities of Beethoven's performance. The appeal of the duo's Beethoven performances is spreading widely not only in their hometown of Dresden but throughout the world. The fact that this is not a live recording of a concert, but a session recording at the Luke Church in Dresden, which is well known for its excellent recordings, shows the enthusiasm of the duo. Michael Sanderling and the Dresden Philharmonic are currently performing Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 1 and 9 and Shostakovich's Symphonies Nos. 1, 4, 5, and 12 in the 2016/17 season, and in April 2017, the long-awaited Kulturpalast, their home base, will be fully renovated. In April 2017, the Kulturpalast, the long-awaited home of the orchestra, will be completely renovated and unveiled. Sony Music
