The new recording with the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, another of Hengelbrock's armies, is Mendelssohn's great oratorio "Elijah"! The long-awaited new recording is now available. Hengelbrock's Mendelssohn left a strong impression with his Symphony No. 1, which was included in his first recording with the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra. The North German Radio Symphony Orchestra has regularly featured Mendelssohn's other symphonies and "Elijah" in their concerts, but this new recording is with the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble and the Balthasar Neumann Choir, a period instrument orchestra he founded and has nurtured with great care. The new recording is by the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, a period-instrument orchestra he formed and has nurtured with his own hands.Under Hengelbrock's baton, the light and colorful woodwinds, the lively and articulated string part, the brass instruments with their delicacy and wildness, and the superbly expressed vocal solo and chorus bring back to life a magnificent sound with a sense of depth and transparency.
